No one in Winnipeg should miss visiting The Falafel Place on the corner of Corydon and Wilton.  It is practically an institution for some people. Lineups for breakfast are common. They come for the incredibly tasty homemade food but equally as well as for the entertainment by its owner Ami. Ami is a colourful character whose friendly demeanor and conversation with anyone in the place has you wanting to come back.  It just feels comfortable.  His chicken soup with noodle/matzaball is the best in town and his speciality is his falafel plates that come in many different varieties. I believe he also caters which is a great alternative to the normal sandwich trays.

A place not to miss is Bistro 7 ¼. (725 Osborne St. S.) I was there Saturday and this place was hopping. Need reservations well in advance. Singles or couples would love sitting at the Chef’s table and watch Alex Svenne (owner/chef) & his assistants cook from a very good menu. Many small plates for sharing and some entrees. Mussels and Pomme Frites are to die for. We had the Leek and Pernod mussels, beet salad, Duck Confit which easily fed 3 of us. The 3 veal sliders we also had were delicious but a bit expensive at $18. Just my opinion. Martinis were perfect and I loved that they were served in a stainless steel vessel.  Restaurant is now divided into 2 areas…one is for dining and other is for lounge/dining with a private room for 20. This place makes you feel like you are in New York or Toronto.

Great News for Winnipeggers, according to a recent article in the Winnipeg Free Press “Manitoba will have one of the strongest housing markets in the country in 2013.” Murray McNeil of the Winnipeg Free Press took a look at the most recent market forecast from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. which predicts an increase in average selling price of 3.9% for Winnipeg.
